Creating A Mindful Space

Green Interiors (GRIN for short) is known for its award winning residential interiorscaping—the intersection of horticultural science and interior design.

Mindfulness is a type of meditation in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you’re sensing and feeling in the moment, without interpretation or judgment. Practicing mindfulness involves breathing methods, guided imagery, and other practices to relax the body and mind and help reduce stress.”  The Mayo Clinic

Mindfulness has moved well beyond being the ʻfringeʼ where practitioners are few and far between. Mindfulness is now mainstream—and here to stay.

Indoor plants are primary among the accoutrements that help nurture and promote this healing and relaxing practice. However, itʼs not merely a matter of surrounding yourself with plants. There is a science behind creating mindful spaces—Biophilia, to be exact—which studies our relationship with the great outdoors and with plants, specifically. There is also an art to creating spaces that promote mindful behaviors and practices. GRIN excels at this intersection of art and science.

We donʼt simply ʻcreate a mindful spaceʼ in your home. First, we focus on what inspires and motivates your interest in mindfulness, and which of the mindful arts—such as yoga, or meditation for two examples—appeal to you. Then, we design, install and maintain an interiorscape specific to your mindfulness needs and goals.

“Some of the best tropical plants for enhancing relaxation and meditation include the Peace Lily, Spider Plant, and Aloe Vera. The Peace Lily in particular, is known for its air-purifying qualities and ability to reduce the levels of toxins in the air—making it an excellent choice for those with allergies or respiratory issues.”

Larger plants such as a Ficus Benjamina and small trees can also help create a sense of safe haven—gently, yet effectively defining a special area within your home dedicated to mindful behaviors and practices.
